Rotary is a unique service club with
an international flavor. Each club is made up of different occupational business
leaders in the community. We have three or four fun and entertaining fund-raisers
during the year to give scholarships both locally and abroad. We promote patriotism
and international understanding. We love to have guests visit us at any of our
Thursday meetings. ~ John Rodgers,

APEX ROTARY SHAVING A PRESIDENT'S HEAD
Apex, NC – The Apex Rotary Club, Apex North Carolina, will host its first ever event to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research. On June 26th, "Shave for the Cure" will take place at Montague Lake in Cary and one unlucky Rotarian President or Past President will lose his or her coveted head of hair.
Shave for the Cure is the brain child of Rotary president John Rodgers, owner and CEO of Prime Mortgage Lending in Apex. In March 2008, Rotary member Brenda Steen, invited Pam Blondin, Executive Director of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, NC Triangle Affiliate, to speak at a weekly Rotary Club meeting. At the conclusion of Blondin’s presentation, Rodgers proposed the Shave for the Cure challenge. Shown in the photograph is Laura Bulla and John Rodgers at the "Shave for the Cure" table at the Apex Rotary Pancake breakfast held at the Apex Fire house on May 3rd.
The campaign challenged the previous 10 Rotary presidents, as well as a few more to make the event fun, including; Apex Town Manager Bruce Radford, Councilman Mike Jones, Councilman Bill Sutton and Councilman Bill Jensen. The rules of the game have not been popular among the candidates as the one who raises the most money is the one to get their head shaved.
The event is all in good fun and the goal is to raise money in hopes of one day, eradicating the disease. According to Town Manager Bruce Radford, “I would do just about anything if it would mean no one had to suffer from cancer again.” There is much speculation about who will actually have his head shaved and numerous back room meetings are taking place to scheme. It is anyone’s guess who will be shaved on the 26th, but there is a lot of money on current Rotary President John Rodger’s head. And, if you ask any other Rotarians how they feel about this monopoly, they say he deserves it since it was his idea. Since Rodgers began his career in the Air Force, having his head shaved does not bother him in the least. The good news is that a lot of money is being raised for a very reputable and worthy organization -- which is in line with the Rotary motto of 'service above self.'
The Apex Rotary Club meets every Thursday at 1:00 pm at Carrabbas in Apex. For more information about the club visit their website at www.apexrotaryclub.org.
